This week our Barracudas earned 124 personal best ribbons.
It is a proud tradition of the Barracudas that when our seniors graduate or become ineligible to swim due to age, we acknowledge them at their last dual home A-meet of the season. In that spirit we acknowledge Jared Engebreth and CJ Kowalewski.
Jared has swum for six years as a Barracuda and has swum three years on the Stone Bridge swim team lettering all three years. He has maintained a 3.95 grade point average at Stonebridge and is going to VA Tech where he will major in engineering. We congratulate Jared on his graduation and all his accomplishments.
CJ Kowalewski has swum for 12 seasons as a Barracuda and is currently a fourth year junior coach on the team. He has swum four years on the Stone Bridge High School Swim team as well. He will be attending James Madison University in the Fall where he will be in the pre-med program, majoring in Health Sciences. We congratulate CJ on his accomplishments and wish him well.

| Registration |
Registration for the 2011 Barracudas season is
closed. Please check back in April for the 2012 season registration.
The registration fees remain the same this year at
$110 per swimmer. This includes a $105 registration fee plus a $5
concessions fee. In past years, we collected drinks from each family to
cover concessions, and to simplify the process and eliminate an overage of
beverages at the end of the season, we have changed the registration fee to
include a nominal fee to be used for this purpose. If you register and then
request to leave the team, you may request a refund by June 11th. There
will be a $20 non-refundable fee that applies to cover administrative
charges. Please email Kim Coon at
kimberlycoon@verizon.net
if you have any questions regarding registration.
| The 2011 Barracuda Coaching Staff |
Head Coach: Stephen Clendenin returns for his 4th year as head coach of the Barracudas. Stephen is graduating this spring from the University of Mary Washington. Stephen is a three-time NCAA Division III All American and a three-time Colonial Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year. He currently holds conference (and University of Mary Washington) records in: the 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, 200 Butterfly, and 200 and 400 meter Individual Medley. Stephen has been with the Barracudas now for 16 years as a swimmer and a coach. He plans to seek a teaching position in the area.
Assistant Head Coach: We are very pleased to welcome Kirsten Poland back to the Barracudas this year. Kirsten was a Barracuda from 1998-2000 and junior coach in 2000 before heading off to college. Kirsten is the Assistant Coach of the Stone Bridge High School swim team and a mathematics teacher at Stone Bridge. She has a bachelors degree in Business Administration from William & Mary and a Masters degree in Teaching from James Madison University.
Junior Coaches: All of our junior coaches are residents of Ashburn Farm and Barracudas since they first learned to swim.
* CJ Kowalewski – his 4th season as a junior coach. CJ also swims for Stone Bridge High School. He currently has two Barracuda team records as part of relay teams.
* Blake Bergstrom – her 1st season as a junior coach. Blake also swims for Stone Bridge High School.
* Nick Kost – his 1st season as a junior coach. Nick also swims for Stone Bridge High School.
* Megan Kowalewski – her 1st season as a junior coach. Megan also swims for Stone Bridge High School.
NOTE FROM THE BARRACUDA COMMITTEE: Normally, the President of the Barracudas is involved in the selection of the junior coaches. This year, due to the fact that a family member applied for a position, our team president did not participate in the selection process in order to avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest. However, going forward, he will manage the coaching staff as is the customary responsibility of the team president. Any questions about this should be directed to the team vice president, Stosh Misiaszek.
