As Pool Season Comes to an End . . .
Another great pool season has passed, but remember. . . Keep your pool passes! They can be used next year. There is a fee of $5 per pass for replacements. Also, all children age 2 by 7/14/12 must have their own pass next year. They do not need pictures though, so a visit to our office is not necessary. The cost is $5 per pass. Just complete the Child Pool Pass Request Form, and you can mail it, along with payment of cash or check, to 21400 Windmill Drive, Ashburn, VA 20147. We will then mail the pass to you. Payment must be received before any passes will be mailed.
Adult Swim Nights Are Here!
There was an overwhelming response received via email and phone regarding adult only swim nights! The Board of Trustees has approved having these one evening per week at Windmill Pool. On these evenings Windmill Pool will CLOSE AT 7 PM to those under age 18. The pool will then be adults-only until closing at 9 pm. Summerwood and Breezyhill Pools will not be affected in any way.
The evenings of adult swim nights will change with each month as follows: June: Tuesdays July: Wednesdays August: Thursdays.
Please contact Chrissy at pools@afhoa.net or at (703) 729-6680 with any questions or concerns.
Pool Memberships
Unsure of what you need to do in order to get pool passes for your family? Click on the following link: How Do I Get My Pool Pass for the 2011 Season?
As last year, membership will not be an additional charge, since the pool has been included in your HOA fees. Stipulations for membership apply as explained below. As a courtesy this year, all households will receive 4 free guest passes, and they will be available for use on your account when pool season starts May 28th. Guest passes will be controlled through the pool computer system, as we no longer use paper guest passes for residents. After the four free passes are used, you can purchase additional guest passes. As in previous years, guest passes are $5 each. If they are purchased in our Windmill Office, they will be electronically added to your account and may be used at your leisure. You can also purchase guest passes at the pools, but with check only. Guest passes bought at the pools must be used at the time of purchase. All guest passes, complimentary or purchased will expire at the end of the season.
There have been
changes made to our pool pass policy regarding children.
This policy must be adhered to by the 2012 season, but
you can earn free guest passes by complying this year!
Now, all children turning 2 on or before 7/14/11 will
need a pass, but the pass will not have a picture of the
child until he/she turns age 9. This
policy change is to ensure better tracking of pool capacity
levels. We are charging $1 per child pass
if you can pick them up at the Windmill Office, and $2 per
child pass if you would like the pass(es) mailed.
The child does not need to come into the office.
Please email Chrissy at
cgier@afhoa.net if you would like passes for your
children made this year. Families in
compliance with the new policy before the end of the 2011
pool season will receive 1 free guest pass for every child’s
pass made in accordance with the new policy.
These passes are in addition to the 4 free guest
passes already being given to each household.
The free guest pass offer and special pass pricing is
only good for families who had a membership and new passes
made in 2010. Payment methods accepted are
cash or check. Children will need pictures
on their passes if they will be 9 on or before 7/14/11.
If your child has passes from last year, they will
remain valid at the pools.
If you are a new resident or have a new
restricted member you will need to come in to get a pass
made. The fee for pool passes is $5 per pass. This can be
done on a walk-in basis between 10 am and 4 pm during the
week, or there are open registration dates on evenings and
weekends. No need for an appointment. IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR
PASS(ES)….. please simply email
cgier@afhoa.net or call
Chrissy at 703-729-6680. Your passes can be reprinted
for $5 per pass, with a fee limit of $20 per household.
Obtaining a pool membership:
If you had a pass made during the 2010 pool season, you do not need to have a new pass made in 2011.
Homeowners - Must be current on HOA dues and membership rights have not been suspended by a 55-513(b) hearing committee. Must have a valid government issued photo ID with current Ashburn Farm address.
Renters - All HOA dues must be current and membership rights have not been suspended by a 55-513(b) hearing committee. People renting a property located in Ashburn Farm must obtain a letter from the property’s Landlord stating he/she has given the renter his/her pool membership. Renter must also provide government issued photo ID to prove residency.
Landlords – Landlord of an Ashburn Farm property must decide whether to give up the pool membership to the renter. Landlords may keep their pool membership, but please inform tenants of this decision. Only one membership will be given per address. In order to receive a pool pass, you will need to bring your government issued ID, and home ownership in Ashburn Farm will be verified in-office.
Membership will include all people living in the residence. People over age 18 must provide their own government issued photo ID with the Ashburn Farm address. Each household is also allowed one restricted member not living in the household such as a nanny. This person will only be allowed access to the pools while caring for the member’s children. The restricted membership is allowed for families with at least one child under 12. Children under 2 will not need their own passes.
Pool passes are $5.00 per member. Lost passes are $5.00 to replace. Payment for passes must be cash or check. Come into the Association office on weekdays between 10 am and 4 pm to have pool passes made. This can begin on March 16th. Please call (703) 729-6680 with questions. There are also evening and weekend walk-in registration dates. The walk-in registration dates for March are published in this newsletter and will be up on our reader boards.

Swim Test
Children under 12 must past the swim test each year to use the diving boards and slide. The swim test is given by a lifeguard or pool manager. It consists of swimming 25 yards and treading water for one minute. A patch will be issued to children passing the swim test and it must be visually displayed on the swimsuit. If your child needs to take the swim test, notify the lifeguard or pool manager at the pools.
Reasons for Pool Closings
The pool area and deck must remain clear for forty-five minutes after the last clap of thunder or visible lightening. For rain – unless it is a hard rain (cannot see the bottom of deep end) or the temperature is excessively cold, the pool should remain open. In cases where there are fecal and/or vomit accidents – the affected pool has to cleared (closed) for 6 hours. If for any other reason a pool requires closing for emergency repair situations, a notice is posted on the pool house doors.

Swimming Lessons
The Crystal Aquatics lifeguards are responsible for coordinating swimming lessons for children. Please speak to the lifeguards to arrange dates/times for your child(ren).
Masters Swimming
Another season of Masters Swimming is under way in Ashburn Farm. The Masters practice group provides an organized workout for adults of all levels. Practices are held at the Summerwood pool 3 days a week (M-W-F) from 6:00-7:30am in the morning.
You do not have to be a “Master” swimmer to participate in the workouts. The people who participate in our work out group cover the complete range from currently active Masters swimmers to tri-athletes to those who just want to get or stay in shape. Some in the group will only be able to swim a couple of hundred yards and some will probably swim 2+ miles. You do not need to be able to swim all of the strokes but you should be able to swim a few lengths of the pool without stopping.
Our workouts run from now through Labor Day Weekend. The program is limited to Ashburn Farm residents with pool memberships. The only cost is the fee to join the US Masters organization. You will have to provide your own equipment (goggles, fins, pull buoy, paddles).
You can join or renew your US Masters membership at http://www.usms.org/reg/ . If you prefer the paper method, you can fill out the attached registration form. Keep in mind that it takes about a week to process the paper application. If you, or someone you know is 18-24 years old, there is a discounted membership of $22. You have to use the paper form to get the discount. Unless you already swim with another Masters team, select “Unattached” for the team.
If you have any questions about Masters swimming at Ashburn Farm, you can call or email David Schulte for additional information at (H) 703-726-8169 or davtors@verizon.net . You may also want to check the US Masters Swimming website http://www.usms.org or the local Virginia regional site http://www.vaswim.org for additional information about Masters Swimming.
