Dog Park Opens in Leesburg

The following information was combined from various articles published on the dog park.  The dog park opened on May 8th.

The dog park, which has been in the works for nearly two years, is located in a gated-off portion of Leesburg's Olde Izaak Walton Park.

Located adjacent to Izaak Walton’s main building, the dog park features a staging area leading into the fenced area, dog waste stations with disposable mitts, picnic tables and park benches. There will be no water provided at the dog park, so users should bring both water and water dishes for their animals.

Exit Rt. 7/US 15 bypass at King Street-North.  Turn right at Davis.  Make your way along a long driveway to the top.  Park and then follow the signs to the grassy area.  (The dog park is at 850 Davis Drive S E).

Some of the rules are: Only two dogs are permitted per handler, and handlers must be at least 16 years of age. Children aged 8 years and under are not permitted inside the dog park, and those aged 9 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult. No breeds are restricted, however, all owners are responsible and must keep control of their dogs at all times.

Also prohibited are dogs under 4 months of age and female dogs in heat. All dogs in the park must be up-to-date on vaccinations and wear a visible dog license.

The dog park will follow the same hours as Olde Izaak Walton and will be open from dawn to dusk. All facility rules are posted at the dog park.

For more information on the Dog Park you can reach the town of Leesburg by phone at (703) 737-7132.  Information will be posted to their website around the mid/late June time frame.

Humane Society of Loudoun County, VA

The Humane Society of Loudoun County, VA (HSLC) is a no-kill animal welfare organization founded in 1966 to rescue and rehabilitate abandoned, feral, and neglected animals from Loudoun County, VA. Our mission is to provide a second chance for our needy, four-legged friends and to work toward a time when all animals have loving homes.

HSLC has rescued hundreds of animals, providing full medical care and boarding at homes and various kennels until loving, permanent homes can be found. The rescue and rehabilitation process, while extremely rewarding, is costly and our resources are often depleted. There are still so many homeless animals that need our help, and with the support of concerned individuals like you, we can do so much more! Please help us to help them.

As a registered non-profit organization, your donations to HSLC are tax deductible.

If you are seriously interested in adopting an animal and giving it a permanent, loving home, please contact us.
