Verizon's primary contractor - S&N Communications - will be working in various areas of Ashburn Farm. Homeowners affected by this have already starting receiving door hangers. Double-Click on the hanger pictures (orange and green) to read the information being handed out and the article below (these two examples were provided to us by the S&N Verizon Contractor).
In the areas where S&N have completed their work - you will see Verizon representatives taking over to splice cables and run tests. (See the pictures posted). So you will see Verizon trucks parked in various areas throughout the community also.
In addition, if a homeowner requests installation (in an area where the service becomes available) you may see installation going on -crossing various properties. Once the main lines and boxes are installed and tested, individual installations can then be offered. An installation request will require Verizon to run lines from the boxes to the homeowner's property to install fiber. All questions regarding any of this should be directed to Verizon at the 888 number specified in the left column.
Estimated Time Frames: You can call the Verizon Customer Advocacy Group to get an estimated time-frame for services for your street at the number listed, however, please be advised that this information, based on the various conditions changing, can change at any time due to unknown circumstances they may run into (examples: rock conditions in some areas that make the 18" excavation difficult, permits may need to be renewed, etc.)

General and Background Information
S&N Communications, contracted by Verizon, has begun installing fiber-optic cable underground in the Ashburn Farm residential areas. This project is to provide new fiber optic enhanced services to customers of Verizon as well as potential new customers. Work will take place in public utility easements or telephone franchise easements next to or on private property. (You can find information about your easement area by reviewing your deed or by obtaining a copy at the county courthouse). Representatives from Verizon will be providing the Association Office with upcoming schedules of work that will be done within the Ashburn Farm Community. We will post this information to the Association website as well as providing general information as the work progresses and informational material as it is received.
The first indications of this work will be colored lines painted and posted flags at various locations on the street and in the grass areas around and on residential properties and common areas. The markings (performed by MISS UTILITY) are necessary to locate existing public utility lines in the area (such as power, cable, gas, etc.). This does not include your private facilities such as invisible fences or underground sprinklers. Locating and marking existing utilities is required by law and is part of the normal construction process. These painted markings will fade and disappear over time.
Depending on what needs to be done in the various neighborhoods, different types of equipment may be used and parked along the streets. Most of the time you will see trucks, cable trailers, compressors, directional boring machines, trenchers or jack hammers. Work will be done between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (If any problems are experienced, some work may have to be performed up until dark, but will not be done after dark). Equipment, with the exception of a cable reel, will not remain in the area overnight but will be removed and returned in the morning as needed. This equipment will not be parked in front of any mailboxes and fire hydrants. Verizon and S&N Communications will follow all Loudoun County’s permit requirements.
Residents located in the areas where work is upcoming will have an informational “door hanger” placed on the front door of your home to notify you that work will begin within 10-30 days (see orange notice shown above). Another of these door hangers may be placed on your door within 72 hours before the actual construction process begins, at that time, MISS UTILITY will also be notified to mark the property as explained above. When the work in your area is completed a “post tag” (green notice - shown above) will be on your front door notifying you that work has been completed. The goal is to perform the work as unobtrusively and quickly as possible. These door hangers will have contact information on them for you to call if you have questions.
When this project first began in April of 2005, and before it was suspended, homeowners in Ashburn Farm were notified that they needed to call an 800 number and report underground sprinkler systems and invisible fencing installed on their property. That data is no longer available. All homeowners will need to provide this information again.
IMPORTANT! Any homeowner that has an underground sprinkler system or invisible fencing on their property will need to notify S&N Communications or Ivy Smith at the number posted on the door hanger (which is also listed In the top left column of this page).
S&N Communications & Ivy Smith will repair any damage done to properties. Homeowners may be requested to periodically water grassy areas that have been replaced or repaired after the work is done.
Approximately 60 days after the work is completed in your area, enhanced broadband services will be available through Verizon. The new broadband data service, called Verizon FiOS, will provide customers with clear voice connections and high Internet speeds.
See the numbers posted in the top Left Column. These are your contact numbers to call for problem areas, complaints and to inquiry about additional information. |
