Board of Trustees - 2012 Candidate Biographies
| 2012 Annual BOT Election |
My wife, Doreen, and I moved to Ashburn from Reston in June, 1995. We have a 9-year old son, Adam, who is a 4th grader at Sanders Corner Elementary School. I retired from the Federal Government after 30 years of service, twenty of which were spent overseas. After leaving the Federal Government, I worked as a contractor/consultant with a number of corporations in Northern Virginia. I decided to go into full retirement in early 2010. Since that time, I have kept busy doing volunteer work for Travelers Aid at Dulles International Airport and the WatchDogs (Dads of Great Students) program at Sanders Corner Elementary. My volunteer work has proven to be a very fulfilling part of my life.
The Cote family plans to keep our roots here in Ashburn for the foreseeable future - at least until Adam finishes high school. We have done a lot of traveling both within the United States and abroad, but we are always happy to come home to our Ashburn community.
I believe I have both the experience and qualifications to serve on the Board of Trustees, and would like to have an opportunity to give back to the community, which I have enjoyed living in for the past 17 years.

HughesMy name is Tim Hughes and I once again ask for your vote for HOA trustee, having served for the past 2 years on the Board first as a Trustee, then as Vice-President, and now currently as your President of the Board of Trustees of Ashburn Farm.
I have more than 20 years of professional experience in various sales representation capacities, in mid and upper management roles. I currently work for Canon and my experience in partnering with executives at Fortune 500 companies in Northern VA has taught me how to work with varying personalities and build consensus, and my track record shows a consistent ability to get agreement and get the job done.
In my personal life, I am married to a wonderful working mom and we’re active in the life of our church. I am also busily involved in the school activities of my three sons, ages 13, 11, and 10. Through my sons, I’m involved with Cub Scout activities, coaching hockey teams at the Ashburn Ice House, and even advocating for my kid’s schools and our community through Ashburn Farm Parents United.
My impression of Ashburn has always been one of a community that has a passion for excellence and high standards for quality of life.I love Ashburn Farm and I appreciate your trust and vote, and being given an opportunity to act on your behalf to make Ashburn Farm an even better place to live for our community.

Since 2008, my family and I have called Ashburn Farm our home. Our connections to Ashburn Farm begin in 2004 when my wife became the principal of Farmwell Station Middle School and our children begin attending the local schools. We continue on this path today as our children attend Broad HS and Farmwell Station respectively, and both are active in school and sports.
I am a city manager by profession and education and spent the first 12 years of my career in the field. My current professional obligations include consulting local, state, national and international governments on matters of economic development, administrative, operational and financial management and operations. It is my belief that these educational and professional experiences are easily and readily applicable to providing guidance to our Home Owner’s Association operations.
Having spent these past 14 months on the Architectural Review Board has given me a unique perspective on the community. Along with having visited many homes, and neighborhoods, the opportunity has allowed me to visit people, talk with them about their neighborhoods and the community. The interests, perspectives, opportunities and the hardships are varied. But so is the diversity of our community.
It is my desire to continue to be part of our community by becoming active in the Board of Trustees. It is my goal to keep our costs down, strengthen our standard of living and broaden the quality of our and our children’s lives. With your help, I’m sure we can accomplish these objectives.

OakleyMy name is Richard (Rich) Oakley. I have lived in Ashburn Farm since September of 2004. I am a 30 year retired law enforcement veteran. I served at the federal, county, and local levels.
I moved to Ashburn Farm from Franklin Farm which is also located in Virginia. I loved living in Franklin Farm. I enjoyed the many ponds, and paths located within my previous community, and let’s not forget the abundance of wildlife. Ashburn Farm reminds me so much of the Franklin Farm community. While living in Franklin Farm, I served five years on the Board of Trustees (BOT). I was also liaison to the neighborhood committee. I found it to be a very rewarding experience.
I also bring my experience and knowledge to the Association as a former Ashburn Farm Board of Trustee member. I realized the importance of this BOT in maintaining the beauty, the integrity of the Association and how tireless and effortless the members of the board worked.
I love our Association and all it has to offer to its residents. It is one of the most sought after communities in Loudoun County. I enjoy many of the amenities, ponds and paths that Ashburn Farm has to offer and the wildlife that make their homes here.
There are many issues on the horizon that will impact our community and I will do my best to help direct the future of Ashburn Farm. I thank you for the opportunity to again serve on the Board of Trustees.
Marc
RippergerI am currently the Secretary of the Board of Trustees and seeking your vote for re-election. I have lived here in Ashburn Farm for 17 years with my family.
Before I retired from the Insurance/Financial industry, I held various management positions involving sales, financial planning and troubleshooting. I am also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
I have volunteered for various committees on the Association including Open Space and the ARB over the course of the 14 years.
I have also been a part of numerous improvements that the Open Space Committee has been involved with. Those improvements are the enhancement of the Windmill pond fountain, pond aerators, the two new welcome signs, the Gardengate Tennis/Multi-purpose courts, the new Windmill Pavilion along with its amenities and various other projects.
I’m also involved with the Budget and Finance Committee. Since 2008 I have been on the B&F committee and have been deeply involved in the budget process on keeping it balanced with great success, the FY2008 budget was the first year the Association’s budget was ever balanced. I worked on removing the swimming pool membership fees without additional cost to the residents. I helped reduce the Associations FY2012 assessments for residents which are still the lowest in the county compared to other HOA’s.
I believe that my knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm are great assets to the Ashburn Farm community. I promise to work diligently to keep making improvements to our community and strive towards keeping Ashburn Farm a wonderful place to live.
